Frequently asked questions about it

A: In Esign (Aadhaar) based signing, the signer initiates the signing process by authenticating using his/her Aadhaar credentials to create a momentary DSC to digitally sign the document. However, in the case of DSC based signing, the signer procures a DSC from a Certifying Authority and uses it to digitally sign any number of documents for the valid period, usually 1 year, of the DSC. The IT Act 2000 provides the legal recognition for electronic signatures as long as they fulfil the listed reliability clauses. DSC based signatures fulfil all clauses, however Aadhaar based Signatures fulfil all but one – possession of signature creation data (your signing keys). The keys are held in a remote system on behalf of the signer during the signature process.

A: Electronic Signatures is an umbrella term mentioned in the IT Act 2000 to refer to any method to authenticate any electronic data (i.e. the method to authorize or create an association between the creator of the data and data itself). Digital Signature is a form of electronic signature and it occupies the highest level of recognition within the law as it satisfies the reliability characteristics listed by the IT Act 2000.

A: Traditionally, DSC based signature has had multiple pain points that result in a learning curve for the user. With xorkee, we have eliminated all the pain points and made it extremely user friendly. Once the user buys a DSC from a CA and registers with xorkee, the user can Digitally Sign from a variety of devices, including phones and tabs, instantaneously. DSC based signature is useful when the user has regular use for digital signatures such as signing of tax returns filing, contracts, agreements, tenders, emails, etc. Aadhaar based Signature is simple to use but is a slightly lengthier process since the user has to first authenticate using Aadhaar (OTP/Biometrics), which will authorize the generation of keys for the creation of digital signature. These steps are followed every time the user wants to digitally sign. Aadhaar based Digital Signature is more appliable in scenarios where the user has a one-off requirement to digitally sign.

A: Yes, xorkee is the only solution that supports digitally signing using a crypto token from an iOS or Android based device. With the right connector and xorkee, signers can conveniently sign from their phones and tabs.

A: Yes, you will need a CA issued Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) that gets stored in a crypto token, installation of respective token drivers, signing application and necessary configuration in combination with compatible version to use the DSC to digitally sign. With xorkee, signers will only require the DSC and xorkee to start signing as everything necessary is already baked into the solution.

A: You can buy a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) from one of the Certifying Authorities (CAs) recognized by the Controller of Certifying Authority (CCA). The list of licensed CAs are mentioned below. Ref: https://cca.gov.in/licensed_ca.html
